sumi-e ink

"Sumi-e," which from Japanese translates to "ink wash painting" is a traditional type of East Asian brush painting technique that uses black ink. This series includes the sweet and stark images of fauna and flora, as well as the intense-looking portraits in the likeness of Daruma San or Bodhidharma, a legendary Buddhist monk from the 5th or 6th century CE. From Wikipedia: "Throughout Buddhist art, Bodhidharma is depicted as an ill-tempered, bearded, wide-eyed."
